  9. SUBJECT: MIS:  Fire training
  10.    Nine members of the City of Barstow (CA) RACES provided
  11. communications support to augment fire department communications
  12. during a fire control training class.
  13.    This function, which served as a drill for our organization,
  14. was held in Barstow with several local and military fire
  15. departments participating.  Seven condemned houses were used for
  16. fire control training and subsequently burned to the ground.
  17.    Through this drill our RACES group was provided with valuable
  18. hands on, realistic training, the quality of which exceeded
  19. anything we could have ever learned in a classroom setting.
  20.    The RACES provided support communications between the incident
  21. commander, logistics, safety, operations, and each training site
  22. during the exercise.
  23.    It isn't often that we have the opportunity to participate in
  24. hands-on training, and we feel it gave us experience which will
  25. enable us to be better prepared to serve and interact with
  26. agencies requiring our resources should a large scale emergency
